Snowberry sphinx moth - Sphinx vashti
Snowberry sphinx moth (Sphinx vashti) caterpillars are adapted to rely on snowberry as their host plant, for food, while adult moths tank up on nectar from flowers.
This moth is large, with a 2-1/2 to 4-inch wingspan and chunky body. The shoulder area has a white patch and forewings are gray with prominent black apical dash and sharp black subterminal lines. Wing fringe is not checkered.
The snowberry sphinx moth caterpillar is green and with seven pairs of lateral white oblique bands bordered black to the rear, when fully developed, and with a black anal horn.
